American Culture and Culture Shock

I think that I can’t talk about a general American culture because I don’t agree with the existence of a group culture anywhere. Talking about a group culture is a way of stereotyping people who live in the same county or region. It is true that within a society there might be common ways of thinking, religious beliefs, traditions and values, however those can change depending on the individual experiences of each person. Living in a globalized world, where technology has facilitated in a significant way the flow of ideas by making communication and transportation so easy, it is hard to find one characteristic shared by all people living in the United States or Ecuador. I’m not saying that there are not differences in the people and way of life in the United States with my country. But I think that those differences are the same I would find in any other country and even in another Ecuadorian family. Therefore, I think that the way in which culture shock affects people depends on their openness and their willingness to live and accept new experiences.
